A Practical Property Visit Checklist for Tenants
A property visit is your chance to check whether a listing matches your needs. Take a simple checklist, allow enough time and make notes immediately after each visit so that similar homes do not blur together.
Start with the rooms
Walk through every room and think about where your furniture will go. Check doors, windows, locks, built-in storage and visible signs of dampness. Notice ventilation and natural light, especially in the kitchen and bedrooms. Ask which appliances or furnishings are included.
Ask about everyday services
Discuss the source and timing of water supply, power arrangements and internet availability. With the owner's permission, check taps and visible fittings. Ask who handles maintenance requests and whom you should contact if a problem appears after moving in.
Look beyond the front door
Check stairs, lift access, parking, common areas and the route from the street. Consider how you will carry groceries or move furniture. Ask about visitor access, waste collection, shared facilities and any building rules relevant to your household.
Clarify the handover
- What repairs or cleaning will be completed before move-in?
- Which keys and access devices will be provided?
- How will existing damage and meter readings be recorded?
- When can you take possession?
Take photographs only with permission, and keep the agreed condition and outstanding work in writing. If something remains unclear, arrange another discussion before committing.
When you find a suitable home on RenTNads, use the listing details as the starting point for your visit. Confirm current availability and check the property in person before arranging payment.
